While it’s scorching hot in Northern Hemisphere, can you imagine skiing Down Under? Located only two hours drive from Melbourne, Victoria has the largest skiable area in Australia. Downhill, cross-country skiing or snowboarding, there are a number of ski resorts available to choose from and a wide range of ski courses to suit people at different levels. Even if you are seeing snow for the first time, there is something for you, take a seat on the toboggan ride! Need a warm break? There is a splendid array of restaurants and entertainment options at your fingertips, while enjoying white snowy scenery. kids can have a friendly snowball fight or take part in snowman contest.

The ski resorts in Victoria are generally open from mid July to end of September. For more accurate opening time, please check the snow camera and report provided by each ski resort.

Lake Mountain is the closest ski resort to Melbourne. There is a number of cross-country skiing options available here. It is a great place for families to sight the snow, have a snowball fight or snowman making. Kids will love to sled down the hill on a toboggan choosing from one of the 7 runs. En route to Lake Mountain Ski Resort, we will traverse through the beautiful Yarra Valley.

Mt Donna Buang

There is no skiable area on Mt Donna Buang, however the snowfall on the mountain in winter has attracted many Melbourne families over, children enjoy snowplay and tobogganing at the summit. En route to Mt Donna Buang, we will traverse through the beautiful Yarra Valley, so you can add some wine tasting or the chocolaterie & ice creamery on your snowy adventure itinerary.

Mount Buller is Australia’s most popular and accessible ski resort, located three and a half hours drive from Melbourne city. Every year, it attracts a huge number of local and international ski lovers. The twenty-two lifts and belts can transfer up to 40,000 skiers per hour. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced skiing enthusiast, there is always a course for you. In addition, the resort hosts many competitive and social events during snow season.

Mount Buller has its own village next to the ski fields. with more than 7,000 on-mountain beds, you can stay overnight at one of the many chalets and hotels located on the mountain. There are a variety of activities to keep families entertained, such as: cinema, Gnome Roam adventure, Australia’s highest day spa, helicopter flight and etc. Furthermore, there are more than 30 restaurants and bars in the village to satisfy your culinary desire.

Our vehicle can only reach the bus stop located at mid-level. Visitors are required to take the resort bus (free of charge) up to the village. Alternatively you can pre-book a snow taxi service for a group transfer.

Mount Baw Baw is the closest downhill ski resort to Melbourne. The resort has a number of courses for both downhill and cross-country skiing. For non-skiers, there are tobogganing and huskies sledding to choose from. For beginners, there are ski lessons you can take, let a coach teach you how to ski like a pro. For experts, Mount Baw Baw has a 9 x 15 meter inflatable cushion behind a two meter jump to practice your next perfect move in the air. 

The resort has something for everyone, while grown-ups enjoy a luxurious spa on the mountain, kids can have their ultimate snowy experience outdoors. There are a number of accomodation and restaurant options available on the mountain for multi-day ski trippers.

Situated 30 minutes drive from Mt Buller, Mt Stirling offers a fantastic backcountry skiing and snowboarding experience. With 68 km of cross country trail, skiers and snowshoers will enjoy a peaceful and undisturbed snowy adventure with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains from the summit. Warm up by the fire at the public shelter or a hot meal from the bistro. For kids, there are three toboggan areas and ski school where they can take a lesson or two.

Mt Hotham is perfect for a multi-day snowy vacation, being one of the highest ski resorts in Australia, Mt Hotham has downhill runs up to 2.5 kilometers long, the 13 chairlifts and belts can transfer over 24,000 people per hour. Without any queues like on Mt Buller, the resort provides skiers with more time on the slopes. Its relatively higher altitude also gives visitors more natural snow to play with.

Mt Hotham ski resort caters to skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing. There are plenty of runs suitable for skiers at different levels. No matter you are a novice or an experienced skier, the ski school has a range of courses, including private tutorial, to take your skill to the next level. There is a ski area designed specifically for children aged between 3 to 14 years old. Parents with babies can also enjoy your carefree skiing/snowboarding experience with the assistance from the local childcare service provider.

Off the slope, you can enjoy an enviable sauna and spa session in the resort village. Mt Hotham has more than 20 restaurants and bars for you to lay back and relax after a long day of skiing. Falls Creek is the largest ski resort in Victoria and spiritual home to cross-country skiing. There is a number of ski-in/ski-out accommodations in the village to choose from, with more than 5,000 beds, you will certainly find something that matches your group. The 65 km of cross country ski trail is the official training base for the Australian national cross-country team. In addition, the resort annually hosts Kangaroo Hoppet, the largest snow sports event in the southern hemisphere. There are a range of training programs catering to kids as young as 3 years of age (i.e. Snowclub 4 Kids); to Junior Programs that cover 6 to 14 years old, to adults at different levels. In addition, There are many recreational activities available for winter holiday goers, such as: snow bocce, snow bikes, tubing and fireworks show every Thursday night.
